The inaugural programme of the Indian Quizzing League was an exciting affair

The Indian Quizzing League (IQL) recently conducted its inaugural open quiz, “India Unplugged 2009”. The enthusiasm that the people of Chennai have for quizzing was evident, with kids, teenagers and college students turning up in large numbers with their parents and friends in tow. The presence of top quizzers in the city added flair and fervour to the event.
The quiz was based on “India” — its food, movies, geography and myths. Over 60 teams, comprising two members each, took part in the quiz, out of which six advanced to the finals after the written elimination round. Besides Chennai, teams came in from places such as Tiruchi, Mysore, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
After a nail-biting finish in the finals, “Raju Na Raha Gentleman”, comprising Anil and Kido from Hyderabad, walked away winners. “Karpa Gamblers” — Thejswi Udupa from Bangalore and Ramki — came second. Plans are on to make this an annual event.
