Clutch a style statement

Carry a clutch for the chic minimal look and gain an aura of grace

Clutch it and see your style quotient go up. You saw Hollywood sirens clutching them at the Oscars. You find your local socialites serenading the party circuit clasping them. Even college girls have forsaken the capacious tote bag for a clutch for social occasions.

A gown or a sari, a dress or just jeans and a tee, a clutch looks good with anything. They come in leather, faux and patent leather, satin and silk, even cane, tissue and denim. A mixed bag of embellishments, trimmings and add-ons completes the look. If you want to pick up a classy and elegant clutch, zone in on Hidesign and craft emporiums. Hidesign has them sober and stylish.

If you’re the kind who loves to flaunt bright and bold clutches, venture into exclusive bags and accessories shops. Sequins, colourful stones, shimmering crystal, crochet, threadwork, digital printing, metal studs and chains, beads, laces, pale gota, animal prints and abstract motifs … the options are aplenty.

Gold, silver and bronze are the favourites. And the shapes go from square to long rectangle. The cost ranges from a few hundreds to thousands. So there’s one for every woman.

Clutch fundas

• It’s more appropriate for evening wear and social occasions.

• Avoid cramming it. A bulge in a clutch looks bad!

• Hold the clutch with your thumb pointing upwards on one side and the fingers splayed on the other side parallel to your body if you are wearing a sari or a formal dress. Or just hold it from the top with the fingers curled inwards.
