Tom yam

A hot and sour soup, perhaps the most famous of Thai dishes, which has now spread all over the world. The soup is basically a broth made from stock flavoured with lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, shallots, lime juice, fish sauce, tamarind, ginger and chilli peppers. The most popular Thai version of tom yam is made with prawns, though chicken and mixed seafood soups are also common. Before serving, chopped coriander or cilantro is sprinkled on top of the soup. Today, readymade tom yam paste is widely available in supermarkets the world over.
