Paris here!

Paris, the city of romance, a favourite destination of many holidaymakers, is now just one-step away. According to the latest figures, Indians are the largest tourist group to Paris. Keeping this in mind, a delegation from the city was recently in the Capital to woo more Indian tourists.

The French Tourist Office organised a press meet-cum-awareness campaign at the Taj Mahal Hotel recently, in association with the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau, highlighting the French Capital as a tourist haven.

Present on the occasion were Karim Mekachera (director French Tourist Office, India), Paul Roll, managing director of the Paris Convention and Jean-Bernard Bros, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of Tourism.

Jean-Bernard Bros said, “This year we are celebrating the 125th year of the Eiffel Tower. So, it’s important to visit Paris and be part of our celebration.” He went on to add, “We are fighting a bad notion that our city is unfriendly and we don’t speak English. Things are exactly the opposite. Paris belongs to every one of us, we welcome all with open arms.”

He also accepted the fact that Paris has stiff competition from many other European cities. While Paris may be ready to play host to Indian tourists, getting a visa might not be that easy. “We are working closely with our Consulate on this issue. But things are much better and there’s always scope for improvement in the future,” informed Paul Roll. Further, he said, “Every year, when I come here I see things becoming bigger. We regard India as one of the growing markets and it will only become bigger in the coming years.” The event gave an opportunity for Frenchmen to develop business relations with key Indian tour operators.
