All’s well that ends well
The Weinstein Company, one of the largest film production houses and distributors in the world, has officially bought the rights for the thriller “Yaavarum Nalam” to be made into a Hollywood feature film. This is the first time in the history of Indian cinema that the rights of an Indian film is being bought by a foreign company to be remade in Hollywood. “Yaavaram Nalam” (“13 B” in Hindi), starring Madhavan and Neetu Chandra, revolves around the life of an engineer who moves into a new apartment on the 13th floor. He comes across a television soap that closely mirrors the happenings in his house. The camera is handled by P.C. Sreeram and the film is directed by Vikram K. Kumar. The Weinstein Company, producer of Hollywood hits such as “The Nutty Professor”, “The Reader”, “Outlander” etc., evinced interest in the Indian film at the Berlin film festival market, where Big Pictures had put up a stall.
