At leisure unwinding moments

Kurinji College of Arts and Science

The Hangout: The playground.

Rush Hour: Before and after classes and at free time.

Where it’s at: Behind the block of classrooms.

What’s to love: Hordes of students here always seem to be on a ready mode to race to the playground for their share of fun and frolic.

A row of trees bordering one end of the playground is where the students hold their conclave. For simple reasons, it provides pockets of shade, the place is comparatively breezy and most importantly, privacy is assured.

‘Yes, there is no one to breathe down our neck”, the students echo.

The students here swear allegiance to each other and are bound only by tons of love, good will and warmth.

They jabber on diverse topics – from movies, music, matinee idols, radio and television shows to studies, job scenario, mobiles, SMS jokes. And the rules of having fun are not stringent but only super cool.

Film reviews, latest ads, gully cricket to international matches, performances of students in various cultural events – all are discussed with immense and equal passion.

“We are as soft as marsh mellows”, squeals Sujithaa.V, II B.Sc IT. “We also talk about making a difference in people’s lives and make sure that each of us chips in at least two rupees a day and collect the amount at the end of three months and give it to some NGO.”

“We also discuss about helping each other in times of financial need by letting them know of the available part-time jobs,” adds Srinivas, II B.Sc Computer Science.

Many of them also don the role of ‘agony aunt or uncle’ and lend an ear to their friend’s personal and family problems and even find ways to resolve it.

Weekend plans, shopping with friends, how to bunk classes – all plans are charted out here in detail.

What’s not to: Academics not entertained here.

Alternatives: They also hang out at the parking lot in the campus as they have the pleasure of sitting on the parked vehicles and chat away merrily.
