Miss World 2008 runner-up Parvathy Omanakuttan unplugged

Poised Parvathy Omanakuttan

Dressed in a green-and-red salwar-kameez, runner- up for Miss World 2008, Parvathy Omanakuttan, is the epitome of grace and poise. As she sits down for the interview, after a long day, Parvathy is game for a round of questions.

Miss World experience

It was a wonderful experience, getting to meet so many people, being independent, seeing a new country, tasting a new lifestyle…I made a lot of friends. One of my favourite moments in the pageant was when Miss England sang a Hindi song.

The crown

No matter how hard you work or how hard you pray or others pray for you, an element of luck is needed. Although I was confident I would win the crown, I guess it just was not my day. People think pageants are just about looking good and answering a routine set of questions, but it is not. You are judged by 12 judges for over a month. They judge you on what you wear, how you walk, talk, eat… A mark less or more on a particular day can make a difference on the overall count. Although I was disappointed at first, it felt great when all the other contestants hugged me and said that I was their Miss World.

Fashion

Fashion means wearing something you are confident and comfortable in. When I’m at home you can find me in shorts and t-shirts. Out shopping, it’s usually jeans and tees. I love accessories, and often carry bags of different shapes and sizes. For formal occasions, I prefer something simple yet elegant. I wear saris when I need to stand out from the crowd.

Figure

But yes, I exercise and watch my diet. I’m a great foodie and love home-cooked meals. I eat everything in moderation. I do cook, but it depends on the time and mood.

Spare time

I usually while my time listening to music. I go for melodies, and give more importance to music rather than lyrics. I enjoy listening to music in all languages as long as it is melodious. I also like dancing, eating and sleeping.

Plans

I have been offered roles in films, but I want a role that can bring the best out of me. I want to be able to connect with the audience. I don’t want to be another Miss India who has entered movies. Let’s see.
