Summer of music

“Summer of Love” comes back. Unwind Center introduced the course last year to celebrate the joy of singing. It included vocal training and learning songs, culminating in a two-day performance by the 85 participants. A DVD was also brought out.

“Summer of Love II” promises all the excitement that marked last year’s course. The bonus this year is two streams — Disney hits and Hollywood classics.

The course will take participants (aged between 7 and 14) through popular songs from “Wizard of Oz”, “Little Mermaid”, “Peter Pan”, “Lion King”, “Aladdin”, “Cars” and more. The children will be given basic vocal training, taught the songs and readied for the performance.

Those aged between 14 and 60 can learn the songs from hits such as “My Fair Lady”, “Sound of Music”, “Grease”, “Mamma Mia” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”

The course will be on from April 15 to 28, comprising 12 days of vocal training and three days of rehearsal and performances.

The Disney Hits batch will have a maximum of 20 students and will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 11a.m. and 5p.m. to 6.30 p.m.There will be two batches of 20 students each in the Hollywood Classics course, which will be held from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The courses will be held simultaneously at Unwind Center, 18 F Block, 2nd Main Road, Annanagar East, Chennai – 40 and Unwind Center, 67, 3rd Cross Road, Gandhinagar, Adyar, Chennai – 20.

The tutors are Reeba Cherian,Saroop Oommen, Anisha Verghese, Smitha Oommen andAnish Chacko.

The fee is Rs. 2,500 and the performance will take place on May 29 and 30 at Museum Theatre, Egmore.

The various batches will come together and perform the songs they have learnt complete with a live band accompanying them, with theatre and dance elements pertinent to each song.
