No insecurity Model Noyonika Chatterjee
The amazing success of young Freida Pinto and lovely Deepika Padukone is enticing the smart and talented to the world of modelling. With fashion weeks spawning like never before, there is demand for more talent to scorch the ramp.
Ankita Jain, a model from Delhi who got selected for WIFW says, “It is the biggest opportunity that I could ever dream of. This will help me in getting to know how the industry works. Whoever is the best will certainly get the big break.”
Devika, another debutante, echoes the mood. “This is the biggest platform I could ever get. The ‘right’ people watch you and that is such a great feeling.” India is also attracting foreign models. Eugenia from Russia is happy to work with Indian models and designers. “This is my first India Fashion Week and everybody is very supportive.”
Naina who is half-French and half-Indian is looking forward to some big offers once she is through with the fashion week. “I’m not nervous. This platform has given me a chance to get noticed, to work with experienced professionals. It is flattering. How many get to wear such great clothes?”
“The fresh faces are a must for such prestigious events. I believe this combination of experienced and fresh faces gels well for our collection,” says designer Kavita Bhartiya.
Choreographer Aparna Bahl feels we need faces that have an international appeal. “The look on the ramp is very international these days. A dusky Indian beauty with global appeal is what I prefer.”
Sumeet Nair of Delhi Fashion Week says new models provides variety, which adds punk to an event that attracts so many international buyers.
Will the new faces replace the experienced? “Of course not, it’s all about perfection. We are here because we are the choice of the designers. There is no denying that the young models are getting better opportunities and better media coverage but at the end of the day what matters is hard work and experience. It feels nice to work with them and there is surely no insecurity,” says famous model Noyonika Chatterjee.
