The right anchor

Kapil Dhawan and Arnab Chatterjee on the success of streetanchor.com

Kapil Dhawan and Arnab Chatterjee

Joint venture

It’s not only the alumni from IITs and IIMs who are making their mark in the contemporary creative society but there are also young guns who feel that to succeed, imagination and right attitude are more important than a reputed institute. Kapil Dhawan and Arnab Chatterjee are two such youngsters.

The co-founders of streetanchor.com and Tree advertising agency, they have been working together for 11 years.

Streetanchor, with its office in Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon, is one of the first web-based citizen empowerment portals in India. “Streetanchor is a wholly self-funded venture addressing social issues, where anyone from all over India can upload photographs and videos of the problems and issues they observe around them in the society. Be it the problems related to bad condition of roads, nonchalant attitude of public authorities or issues like moral policing,” explains Kapil.

Kapil, a Bachelor in Business Administration from School of Marketing, New Delhi, started his career with Mudra in 1996. Whereas Arnab graduated in Fine Arts from Delhi College of Art, before starting his career with Trikiya Grey in 1995.

Started with an investment of Rs.19 lakh rupees, Streetanchor is being re-launched because of some technical problems. The partners say they have received a large number of entries from people.

Get the information

Here you can get information about NGOs and legal experts whom you can approach about issues that concern you. They have also started an RTI Cell, which people can approach to get information on any subject after paying a nominal amount. “We are also tying up with media agencies to provide them the content on social issues so that the issues get larger coverage,” says Arnab.

After the successful launch of Streetanchor, the duo started ‘Tree’, an advertising agency, with an investment of three lakh rupees and a team of eight members. It did a business of one crore rupees in its first year of operation, they state. “At present we have seven clients with us which include Moolchand and PVR BluO. Our aim is to increase our organisation by 50 to 60 per cent in this financial year, where our priority will not only be to add new accounts but also to sustain our old clients,” says Arnab, who was ranked the number one Art Director from India by Luerzer’s Archive in 2004.
