SWEAT IT OUT To reduce flab

A good gym to workout on a treadmill and whip myself back in shape without much ado about dieting, exercising and spending was in my mind for long.

The one at Anna Stadium turned out to be a good choice what with the fee being just Rs.100 a month. If the cost was a driving force to this well-equipped complete gym, my motivation levels touched a new high with a newly acquired chic gym wear – sweat pants, T-shirt and sneakers.

For overall health

The first thing I did after reaching the gym was to meet gym instructor, Balasubramanian. “Working out on a treadmill can result in a significant improvement in one’s overall health. Treadmill has many benefits and among the biggest is improvement in cardiovascular system. Not only heart muscles get strengthened, but blood flow to the body also increases and works well. Respiratory system gets toned up and you also lose a lot of calories,” he straightaway briefs me.

I start my grind on the treadmill recalling a friend’s joke that the best part of working out on a treadmill is that one need not walk back the same distance covered as in walking.

Target

I set a target of burning 500 calories for the day. To start with, I set my speed rate at 5 on the console. As the workout progressed, I gradually built my speed.

Mr. Balasubramanian kept a watchful eye on me and instructed me to stop holding on to the handles on the treadmill. “It wrecks the walking form and decreases the calorie burn.”

Rejuvenating

I followed his advice and it took me a little less than an hour to reach my set target. I must confess at the end of the session, I felt like a newly opened champagne bottle, bubbling with enthusiasm.

I can now heave a sigh of relief as it put an end to my search to make sure I get fit, just by treading away!
