Dessert paradise Wide range of desserts at the Fifth Element

Sundays are late rising days. Breakfast is sure to begin late. For those who want a fun day out or are lazy to set foot in the kitchen, why not head straight for the Sunday special brunch at the Fifth Element restaurant at Taj Residency. Open from 11 :30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Sunday brunch is a feast to savour.

Spoilt for choice

The spread is wide and you will be spoilt for choices. There are 11 types of salads with six dressing options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. In the non-vegetarian section, there is smoked salmon placed on garlic bread (optional). Another interesting dish is the British appetiser, liver pate. The liver is cooked with apples, butter, wine and cream, sautéed with onions and churned to make a fine paste. Other options include poached squids in cocktail, poached fish with sun dried tomato and poached clams in garlic mustard.

For veggies, it’s a bright green platter with broccoli and roasted beetroot, spicy mixed beans, green peas and carrot mousse on crouts.

Moving on to the main course, it will be a case of too much too soon. That is why the Taj has opened the pool for diners on Sundays. Diners can splash around in the pool and build up an appetite and have some fun in the process. Back to the main course... it’s a lavish buffet that awaits the diner’s palate. It is a mix of Continental, Oriental and Indian. You can pick and choose your way through this maze of cuisines. In the main course you can begin with the Indian mix of Awadhi style chicken biryani and mirchi ka Salan.

For veggies, there is the aromatic North Indian tarkari (vegetable) biryani. Moving on you can go Oriental with the stir fried noodles with peanut and Chinese greens with the Hong Kong styled chicken that is made with three different peppers and Soya sauce.

In the Continental section there is the delicious Beef Wellington, the cheesy baked chicken (where the breast of the chicken is brushed with salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce which is later grilled with grated mozzarella cheese and then baked in wine)and grilled seer steaks with caper mustard butter .

Later you can go Keralite with Crab Vattichatu or the Duck Mappas. You can wash this down with a complementary Corona Beer or a Sparkling Sula Wine.

The main attraction of the brunch remains the live cooking corner where you can get to decide how you want it. That takes us to the dessert counter that is equally stuffed choc-a-bloc with dates and fig pie, baked yoghurt (a favourite), gajar ka halwa, caramel custard (you can never go wrong with this!) chocolate mousse, fruits Romanoff (a healthy option) and so on.

So on Sunday, if you decide to make it special for yourself and your family, you know where to head for - because this brunch is sure worth it.

The buffet is priced at Rs. 750 for adults and Rs. 450 for children. For those intending to use the pool, the prices are Rs. 900 for adults and Rs. 600 for children.
