For a wild experience

RESORT A tented camp on the shores of the Kabini comes with an abundance of wildlife viewing, safaris, night patrols, and a machan spa

In the wild The Bison

The Bison, a luxury Bush Betta-Bison product, is a wildlife deluxe tented camp overlooking two National Parks on the shores of the Kabini river, near Mysore.

With African tents and plush Victorian interiors, it promises the romance of the Raj within the heart of the man-animal conflict zone.

Nawabzada Saad Bin Jung, who has earlier operated temporary camps on the banks of the Kabini, Bush Betta Bandipur and Bush Betta Fishing Camp in Mekedaatu for 20 years, has fine-tuned activities.

The camp offers seven double deluxe tents, two mosquito-netted suites, with running hot and cold water, step-in-baths. The reception, lounge and the dining are all enclosed in white mosquito mesh and built on stilts to keep the wildlife out. The reception has a library, bar-counter and plush seating.

The lounge is placed for vantage viewing of wildlife through binoculars and a telescope. A machan in a clump of trees is The Spa. Availability of 24-hour tribal security offers you the opportunity to be woken up at night when and if the wildlife approaches.

You can sign in to be woken up to a sighting or to a sound.

Activities include safaris, coracle rides, fishing, trekking, (Advance intimation is needed to spend a night or two out in the bush.) Or try mobile camping — take the jeep, a driver and a cook out into the countryside and camp next to water tanks and borders of the forests. Bullock cart safaris, game viewing from machans, visits to tribal villages, visit other game parks and sanctuaries like the Nugu and the Wynad Sanctuaries or Bandipur or Madhumalai National Parks. Take part in conservation activity: patrol the nights, assisting local villagers. Spread conservation awareness amongst the locals and create confidence.
