Designer Snigdha Chaturvedi borrows from the traditional jewellery styles, gives them a spin and creates contemporary and yet timeless jewellery pieces. In her debut exhibition “Gehna — Timeless and traditional” recently showcased in the Capital, the viewers got a chance to sample her work which borrowed from meenakari, thewa and jadau styles from Rajasthan, filigri and temple jewellery from South India, Nizami mughlai work, and tribal work from the villages of Madhya Pradesh.

Snigdha’s jewellery brand Gehna deals in high-end 22 carat meenakari jadau jewellery as well as traditional and contemporary 18 carat diamond and gold jewellery.

Says Snigdha, who is into jewellery designing since last year, “My first degree was in fashion designing followed by a diploma in export merchandising. It was while I was completing my degree in gemology, I realised my talent for designing jewellery that was timeless, exceptional and could be passed on like family heirloom from generation to generation. It was, therefore, and still is, a challenge to work on designs that beautifully complement the change in fashion, times and aspirations.”

The Delhiite says, “ I have been researching the industry, jewellery trends and use of new gems since last two years.”

Now, Snigdha is preparing for her next exhibition slated to be held in Noida this month.
