Be natural Beat recession with homemade beauty products

Why bust your purse for your beauty needs in these times of recession?

Look around home for answers to your beauty woes. With natural ingredients that cost you little and have lower risk of allergic reactions, you can use home products for beauty care. Natural Homemade Wax

Combine 2 cups sugar, quarter cup lemon juice and quarter cup water in a vessel. Stir over low flame until the sugar melts and the mixture is thick and brown. Cool slightly before using. Store in the refrigerator. To re-heat, you can also microwave this.

Cracked heels

Apply a mixture of glycerine and rosewater regularly to soothe and cure cracked heels.

For tired, sore eyes

Add 1 oz. rosewater to 4 oz. of boiled or distilled water. Bottle this solution. Rinse your eyes with this liquid in the hollow of your palm.

For dark knuckles

Combine 2 tsp each of lemon juice and sugar with half tsp of glycerine. Dip a lemon half in this liquid and dab on the dark areas. Leave this on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Repeat for four successive days.

To darken hair

Add half cup tea powder to 1 litre boiling water. Leave for 10 minutes. Turn off the flame. Cover and allow this to cool. The cooled tea can be used as a hair rinse.

For rough palms

Rub 1 tsp each of sugar and oil or lemon juice between both palms.

For puffy eyes

Soak two teabags in cold water. Apply to each eye-lid.

For a dark neck

Mix lime juice, cucumber juice and a pinch of turmeric. Apply and leave on for 20 minutes

For under-eye circles

Place pumpkin slices under the eyes. Use for a fortnight.

All-natural face packs

Banana –Honey Face pack: Apply mashed banana paste mixed with some honey. Leave on for 10 minutes. Wash and pat dry.

Cucumber- Yoghurt Face Pack: Puree a peeled cucumber .Add 2 tbsp yoghurt to this. Leave on the face for 20 minutes. Gently wipe with a damp wash cloth.

Tomato Face pack: Apply tomato juice to your face. Wash once dry .

Turmeric Cream Face Pack: Mix turmeric and milk cream. Apply and leave to set. Wash after 20 minutes.

Banana- Sour cream Face pack: Combine half a banana, one tbsp honey and two tbsp sour cream. Apply and leave to set for 10 minutes. Gently wipe off with a moist cloth.

Soap ‘substitute’

Mix besan or green gram powder with milk. Use instead of soap.

Natural conditioners for dull hair

Tea brew. Else try stale beer.

Fresh and fragrant

Add a few drops of eau-de-cologne to your bath water.

Dry skin?

Add a few drops of baby oil to the water for your bath.

For rejuvenation

Papaya Face pack: Apply mashed (ripe) papaya paste on the face. Leave this on for 20 minutes. After which, wash face and pat dry.

Oatmeal- yoghurt Face pack: Combine 1 tbsp yoghurt and one tbsp finely ground oatmeal. Stir in a few drops of warm honey. Apply this to the face. Leave this on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Pat dry with a warm wash cloth. Apply moisturiser. This face mask is suitable for all skin types.

Note A ‘patch-test’ for all the above home remedies before actual application to avoid any possible allergic reaction is advised.
