GOING PLACES Sharada Ramanathan

Filmmaker Sharada Ramanathan, director, Golden Square Films, has been invited to EXPOGESTAO 2009, one of the world’s biggest conferences on entrepreneurship and management, to address a plenary session on ‘Innovating markets’ in Bra zil. Sharada’s debut directorial venture, “Sringaram”, won three National and two State awards. In her address, she will highlight the cultural diversity of Indian cinema and its possibilities on the international scene. Her audio-visual illustrations will include clips from films such as “Iruvar” (Mani Ratnam), “Nan Kadavul” (Bala), “Pather Panchali” (Satyajit Ray), “Elipathayam” (Adoor Gopalakrishnan) and those from other regional languages such as Assamese, Bengali and Marathi.

The filmmaker’s visit will also include dialogues on Indo-Brazilian co-production possibilities based on the Indo-Brazilian treaty on cinema. Sharada is said to be the first Indian director to be invited for this conference, and she will work alongside management gurus Tom Peters and Jose Santos, KPMG Director Lord Hastings and Nobel laureate Gary Becker.
