In tune with his passion

Singer Hemachandra is a composer at heart

On a musical ride Hemachandra

The audio trailer of Ride on television sends singer Hemachandra scooting to the living room. But the peppy lyrics of this Bellamkonda Suresh’s production aren’t the cause of adrenaline high. It is his first movie as a music composer and he says he still can’t believe his new avatar as a music director. “It was a big burden when I was selected to tune music for the songs. I was quite anxious about the end product,” he admits. However, the album’s steady rise in the music circles has put his anxieties to rest but the youngster is far away from being satisfied. “I still feel I could have done better,” he says.

With a total of six numbers in the album, Hemachandra has lent voice to three songs including the popular Mahi Ve which has a curious sound to it. “It was different singing under my own music direction. I had to practice Mahi Ve… many times till I got the right feel. I okayed the song only at the fourth sitting,” he smiles.

The 50 songs Hemachandra has sung till now have made him a household name but he says he is a composer at heart and wants to follow his idol A. R. Rehman. “Music is very important to me and I always wanted to be a singer. But I also wanted to be a composer like my role model A. R. Rehman. Composing is like giving life to words and Ride has filled me with an overwhelming feeling,” he says with pride.

After Ride, Hemachandra is looking forward to another new film Maa Naana Chiranjeevi, as he is scoring music for the film too.

This Jagapathi Babu-starrer is inspired by Will Smith’s Pursuit of Happyness and Hemachandra hopes to involve the listener with his songs.

He is also singing for Mahesh Babu in the movie Varudu.

His trip with the small screen as an anchor will continue with Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Paa L’il Champs… after a small break. “I am a product of Zee’s Sa Re Ga Ma show. Why will I decide to change loyalties and shift to another channel,” he says in a reply to his future plans. His music keeps him busy but the little time he can afford for himself is spent with his girlfriend. What’s her name? “I will reveal at the correct time,” he signs off.
