Life's looking up

Nitin Sathya on "Muththirai" and the other films on his platter

He was a maniac in "Saththam Podadhey", a fun-loving friend in "Chennai- 600028", a reformed thief in "Raman Thediya Seethai" and a commercial hero in "Pandhayam". The last mentioned was a fiasco, but Nitin Sathya did a reasonably good job with the rest. From his position as a one-scene actor in films such as "Vasool Raja MBBS", Nitin Sathya has come quite a long way. His "Muththirai" has just been released. "God has been kind. My career graph is witnessing a steady rise," he says.

But it's been quite a while since Sathya's last film, "Pandhayam", was released. "As far as releases go, I always seem to have a couple of films coming out together followed by a lull. After `Chennai-600028' and `Thozha,' it was `Pandhayam' and `Raman Thediya Seethai.' But, I've continued to be busy," he smiles.

"Paalaivanacholai", the 28-year-old film that had Suhasini and Chandrasekar in pivotal roles, is now being remade with Sathya as protagonist. And, obviously impressed with his performance in "Muththirai", ASA Productions, which made it, has booked the actor for the lead role in their next venture, "Pinkurippu", an action- based thriller.

Sathya is a picture of zest as he dwells on his recent release. "After `Saththam Podadhey' the general feeling was that I could do only intense roles. Thanks to `Muththirai,' people are appreciating me in comedy," he smiles.

"While dubbing, I couldn't suppress my laughter in the comedy sequences. And, I feel good about having done some stylish action," he goes on. Srinath, the director of "Muththirai", and Sathya are childhood buddies. "We were a happy team. On the sets, we would keep pulling Manjari's leg. She was a real sport." Manjari Phadnis, his pair in the film, has also sung the romantic number, `Azhagana Neeyum.' "Srinath liked her voice and Yuvan approved. She's done an amazing job," Sathya comments.

"All of us have put in a lot of hard work and the toil has been worth it." `Muththirai' is bound to earn me a good name."

It has already begun to .
