http://nrispot.com/ brings together India-related sites under one umbrella
|
When Ganesh Palaniappan had a son four months ago in the U.S., he was dying to send his computer-unsavvy mom back in India physical photographs of her grandson. He scoured the Internet before finding a website (picsquare.com) that was willing to print and ship 20 photographs to India for less than three dollars.
That set him and friend Sudharshan Krishnamachary thinking — why not put together all such services that would be of immense help to NRIs such as them? And so was born www.nrispot.com
The website throws light on new Indian websites and online services that would help bridge the gap between their land of residence and birth that much more. “Because, Indians want to stay connected with India or things related to India, irrespective of how long they have lived abroad,” they say.
The site has five broad links — read, listen/play, research, send and buy/sell. Each of them has many more options.
The most interesting ones fall in the research category. Here, you can connect to sites that deal with matrimony, parenting, maps of India, recipes, city-specific India search, education in India, and websites that would interest returning NRIs.
On the site, people can also compare rates before sending home money (and strike great deals), booking tickets, paying bills, buying insurance and the like. And, there are plans to customise the site based on location, so that you access sites that are suitable for your needs.
