Cool and comfy Kurtis in floral prints are in vogue this season
It is that time of the year when grey misty cotton wool clouds dance in the skies. The cool zephyr, the verdant monsoon hues and the romance of the rains are sure to pull you out of your homes to enjoy the weather. As the skies descend down to lift the spirits, it’s also the time to have a re-look at the wardrobe and check out some fashion trends for the season. Light pastel shades are a thing of the past. Get ready to herald in the monsoon with a splash of colours.
“Bright floral prints bring out the best mood of the season. Knee-length kurtis with leggings are the most comfortable and trendy wear for the season,” says Jaipur-based fashion designer Mohit Kumar. Mohit, who is a graduate of NIFT, has put up his stall of ‘M.K. Tailors’ at the ongoing Lepakshi exhibition at T.T.D. Kalyana Mandapam. The stall has some bright and sunny hues to brighten up a cloudy monsoon day. His collections include a wide range of kurtis and halter-neck dresses. Its textural feel trademarks the centrepiece of the monsoon collection. There is a common grain, accentuating the features of fabric and depth of colour. New shapes have been added with utmost consideration to quality and finish. Cuts and fabrics have been carefully constructed with attention to the palette and concept of the theme, mirroring the unique tones and textures of the season.
This year, the colour palette is a combination of bold and light. Peacock blue, orange, purple, pink and other pastel shades are in. Avoid wearing white, black and grey.
Mohit’s collections are a hit at many other cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Nagpur and Pune where he supplies to malls and boutiques and also participates in exhibitions. “We supply in wholesale to Chermas, Taruni, Chandana Brothers, Westside and Fab India at cities like Hyderabad,” he says. They have a retail and manufacturing unit at Pune and all the designs are tastefully created by him and his family members.
“One of the other trendy styles topping the fashion charts are the knee-length halter-neck dresses in breezy cottons,” he says. His halter neck dresses have a soft Oriental look, fashioned in minimal cuts and accentuated by floral motifs, some are blended with the base colours - black, white, sky blue, navy, and burgundy while others have contrasting shades of blues, oranges and sunshine yellow. The kurtis range between Rs.200 and Rs.450 while the halter-neck dresses cost between Rs.175 and Rs.250.
The other style that has been attracting the youngsters is the ‘masakali’ style kurtis. “These give a very ethnic but stylish look, especially as college wear. It can be teamed up with leggings or skin-tight jeans and worn to offices as well,” adds Mohit, who has put up some interesting vibrant collections of these kurtis.
