Bliss no more

Children are indeed growing fast but not fast enough to suit our needs! We want them to become three year olds in less than three months, so that, by the time the maternity leave gets over, we can drop them at a play school and go back to work. We stuff them with knowledge and skills to the extent that precocity is not a rarity any more. ‘Behold the child among his new-born blisses, a six year darling of a pigmy size…fretted by sallies of his mother’s kisses,’ wrote Wordsworth. Today even a two-year-old is not his parent’s darling unless he/she brings home cups and laurels!
