Variety and spice

Cubbon Pavilion offers a delightful array of flavours

High on taste Sea food starters include shrimp ice-cream, green mussels and crumbled Malabari crab claws

The chill Bangalore breeze hits you harder in the majestic Cubbon pavilion, located at the ITC Royal Gardenia.

The massive array of green plants spread across the wall enhance the ambience. The restaurant boasts of a huge open area and is spacious.

Exhaustive buffet

We start the buffet meal with Norwegian salmon soup and some helpings of the innovatively named Cubbon buns, which the chef informs, were Lord Cubbon’s favourite. The buffet is fairly exhaustive and has Japanese, Chinese, European and Indian delicacies.

The buns are mildly flavoured with mint chutney and taste excellent. The soup is fresh and whets the appetite. We also sample some excellent fresh pomegranate juice, which refreshes you and leaves you with a tantalisingly lingering taste. We move on to the starters and sample the ‘fruit of the sea samplers’— a collection of seafood items comprising shrimp ice-cream, green mussels and crumbled Malabari crab claws, which are flavoured lightly and taste excellent.

We sample some sushi, with a dash of wasabi sauce. The preparation is impressive and provides a tangy after taste.

We also pick up a sampling of the salads that are fresh and high on the taste factor. In the main course, we sample nasi goreng — Indonesian fried rice served with shrimp, egg and chicken. The preparation is spicy and comes with a burst of flavours .

We taste the Allepey fish curry with shahi paneer and boiled rice. The combination works well and the fish manages to score on authenticity and the flavouring transports one to the lovely backwaters of Kerala. We also sample the Southern Railway lamb curry that comprises tender cubes of lamb cooked with potatoes and served in spicy coconut gravy. It tastes great with steamed rice. A bit of a kathi roll, done at the live counter is also a definite must.

We finish the meal with rasmalai and a superb pineapple raspberry crumble. Service is efficient and quick. The Cubbon Pavilion is located at ITC Gardenia, near Mallya Hospital, Vittal Mallya Road.
