Actress and dancer Sudha Chandran
She was the most hated woman on television. Shrewd and manipulative, she sashayed in designer saris and stylish bindis, which became her trademark style. Now, Sudha Chandran says she is tired of being the ‘bad woman’ on the small screen.
Struck by monotony
She has gone in for an image change, and her new serials and TV shows are proof of that. “The negative characters made me very popular, but were getting too monotonous. I was fed up with the tearjerkers and wanted a change in my onscreen persona,” she says.
The dancer-turned-actor is enjoying her role as judge on the dance show ‘Magadheera — Dare to Dance’ on Zee Telugu. “Being a dancer myself, I can understand the travails of youngsters performing on the show. In Magadheera The rounds are too tough and it takes lot of courage to appear in the programme. Hats off to all the participants,” she says. She is a tough nut to crack on the show and is known for her gutsy comments.
A visit to Hyderabad gives her a sense of déjÀ vu. “I lived here in a guesthouse for my debut project Mayuri for Usha Kiron movies wayback in ’85. After two decades, the city has changed considerably,” she says.
Passion of life
Her dance career has also been on an upswing with the actor performing at different festivals. “Dance is my life and I am happy to keep my passion alive,” she says. Besides dance, her TV shows keep her busy.
She will be seen in Malayalam movie, “Alexander The Great”, starring Mohan Lal. And, on TV, her projects include serials on Kalaignar TV, Surya and Raj TV.
