QUIK TIP

Vote for oats

Persons who eat oats every day stand a better chance at improving heart health. Oats improve endothelial function — they help the arteries in dilation and facilitate free flow of blood to the heart and the entire body. Endothelial function decreases in persons who are overweight. It also drops in persons who have glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. A recent study compared a group of subjects eating a bowl of oats every day with another group that didn't eat it. It was found that the subjects who ate oats had improved their functioning of endothelium — the layer of cells lining the blood vessels. This is attributed to phytoestrogens and beta glucan present in oats.
