No-frills delight

Delicacy serves great food, minus any attendant brouhaha

Colourful cuisine Great combination of hearty food and generous portions

Tucked away in the corner of the lane leading up to the Bangalore east railway station, Delicacy may not boast of an imposing structure or great décor. The ambience is minimal with wooden chairs with Chinese wall paintings being the only ‘Eastern' influence in the place.

We start with the chicken manchow soup, which is hot and provides instant relief to anyone suffering from a bad cold. However, momos is the dish that the outlet is known for and we soon attack our first plate of steamed chicken momos, served with chilli sauce and a unique spicy orange paste. The momos are a bit high on oil and fat, but the taste makes up for the indulgence. The chicken pieces are plentiful, the veggies inside have been cooked well and it goes well with the sauces on offer. It is light on the stomach. For vegetarians, a veggie variant is also available.

Another must try from the starter palate is the chicken satay, which is marinated chicken pieces grilled with an assortment of vegetables. It uses some sauces, which provide a hint of sweetness to the preparation and ensures that the spiciness quotient is not too high. The tangy sweet combination and the tender chicken whet the appetite and sets the mood for the main course preparations.

In the main course, one should try out the triple sczhewan chicken fried rice. It offers a combination of rice and noodles, with chicken and assorted veggies, alongwith a chicken gravy. It is very oily and spicy and a filling meal by itself. We also sample the spicy chilli garlic chowmein, which is a bit spoilt by the use of soya sauce in the preparation.

We also sample the sweet cashewnut pineapple rice, with the pineapple bringing in a great deal of sweetness to the preparation. If you are one who is not very much into spicy foods, this preparation would be an excellent choice. Delicacy is located at no. 97, Wheeler Road Extn, opposite ITC Infotech, Cooke Town.
