TASTE GOOD, FEELS GOOD Besides idli, dosa and pongal, there are a lot of other dishes to try at Bhimas Chitram PHOTOS: NAGARA GOPAL
Tired of the way your everyday
idli-dosa, vada, upma taste?
And if your all-time favourite
idli-dosa joint's sambar is not
providing the much needed comfort
it's time to change loyalties.
And idli dosa need not always be at
a tiffin centre. Ambience and good
food goes hand in hand and if you
are treating someone who would
prefer not to share any non-veg
items with veg while dining, this
place might just help you earn
some brownie points.
Bhimas Chithram from God's
own town-Tirupati, has set shop
in mana city. For food lovers, visit
to Bhimas in Tirupati is as important
as the darshan and also for
those who don't have the luxury of
eating authentic idli (prepared
sans the idli rava), dosa, vada and
pongal at home. If a plate of pongal
and idli is the starter after landing
at Tirupati, the thali is the ritual
while departing.
Situated on road no. 45, Jubilee
Hills, Bhimas Chithram is an ideal
family dining place. The interiors
give a hint of a five-star restaurant
with Bheem Raju's splendid art
pieces to highlight the interiors.
The walls are adorned with replica
paintings of Ajanta Ellora and various
temple paintings. To make the
work originally antique, the artist
have scooped it out in portions.
The place is clutter free and service
is prompt with waiters ready to
place the menu the moment anyone
takes a seat. The place has a
seating capacity of 85 people inclusive
of a PDR.
The menu has the traditional
south Indian fare, a Chinese section
and a selection of North Indian
starters and curries. The mini
idli and sambar will bring you back
to the place to savour the melting
idlis. Yes, they melt and need no
chewing. The dosas come crispy
with a potato filling which isn't a
paste.
Bhimas is also very popular for
their south Indian vegetarian thalis.
They also serve the north Indian
veg thali. The south Indian thali
comes with a soup and tawa
cooked chapatti, curries, dal, sambar,
rasam, curd and dessert.
Chuck the chapatti and the soup as
that will leave you with the appetite
of a monster and you can break
loose on rice, gongura pachadi,
ghee, mango pickle and the freshly
made chutney.
The mango chutney which they
serve during the mango season has
coarsely chopped onions. It is tangy,
spicy and the onion adds the
crunchy zing and they have refills.
The chutney mixed with rice goes
well with the papad. To eat to your
heart's content you have to really
eat a lot of rice and go with a `don't
give-up attitude.' The pappu is
light and soothing on the stomach
specially after devouring the pachadis
and chutneys. Be courageous
and take some more rice to
polish off the sambar and finally
drink the rasam if your stomach
screams `ab baas.'
Sit for a while to finish the
home-style dessert which is either
a payasam, gulab jamun or khubani
ka meetha.
Bhimas plan to start a walkers
coffee and juice menu soon and
then they will come to Secunderabad.
