Going solo

The Alliance Française of Madras presents Niranjani Iyer's ‘Around The Wandering Shadow'. The performance is inspired by the book “Why The Child Was Cooked In Polenta” by Aglaja Veteranyi. “The writer committed suicide around 2003,” she mentions, adding, “It's a very, very strong book. So for me, it's not over yet,” says Niranjani. Although she has learnt Bharatanatyam in her childhood, she does not count it as a great influence. Niranjani says she is greatly inspired by the dance theatre of Pina Bausch.

The piece looks at the outsider and the performer. The piece is a solo with guitarist, Shyamant Behal. It will be held at 6.15 p.m. on June 25 at Edouard Michelin Auditorium, Alliance Française, 24, College Road, Nungambakkam. For details, call 28279803.
