Bright in patches

Anusha's performance passed muster while Aishwarya's presentation was neat.

ANUSHA PRADEEP

Anusha Pradeep's vocal concert gained momentum with "Sarasiruhasanapriye" (Natta-Adi-Puliyur Duraiswamy Iyer). Her Shanmukhapriya alapana lacked spontaneity but was bright in patches. The song that followed was "Marivere" (Adi-Patnam Subramnania Iyer).

"Ksheera Sagara" (Devagandrai-Adi-Tyagaraja) and "Bogeendra Sayinam" (Kuntalavarali-Kanda-Swati Tirunal), a prelude to the Madhyamavathi (Palintsu Kamakshi-Adi-Syama Sastri) raga, passed muster. Both S.P. Ananathakrishnan (violin) and Delhi Sairam (mridangam) were a shade ahead of the main artiste, thanks to their concert experience. Ananthakrishnan's Madhyamavathi was outstanding.

Aishwarya Raghavan set the tempo for her concert with the lively "Thathvamairya Tharama" (Ritigowlai-Adi-Papanasam Sivan). After a jittery start, her Bhairavi raga alapana settled down well. It was a very sincere attempt. "Nee Padame" (Adi-Patnam Subramania Iyer) was on the dot. "Shanku Chakra" (Poornachandrika-Rupakam-Dikshithar) and "Dhanyudevvudo" (Malayamarutham-Adi-Patnam Subramania Iyer) were her other pieces, before she dived into the ocean of Kalyani with Tyagaraja's "Nidhichala Sukama" in mishram. Amritha Murali(Violin) excelled both in Bhairavi and Kalyani. Left-handed Delhi Sairam did his best to enliven the concert with his interesting laya patterns.
