SURPRISE PACKAGE

Responses to the music season from a cross-section of the audience

My neighbours said that they had gone to hear Savita Narasimhan at the Music Academy because her radio concert, a few days ago, had impressed them.

Her voice had a fine timbre, resonant and malleable. It was seasoned, mature music, certainly far better than what you would expect in a noon slot.

She managed to create the impact of a full-fledged concert within the short time allotted to her. The ending was a surprise.

It was in a slow mood, not the briskness we associate with the rounding off.

I also liked her sophisticated, aesthetic look in the long bordered sari. But it was her voice that drew our attention, not her attire. Her pleasant smiling face was a plus point.
