Charumathi Raghuraman
Charumathi Raghuraman, an artiste with considerable potential and talent, has been groomed on the violin to attain striking performing levels by her guru, T.N. Krishnan. Her strong, full bowing and commendable playing technique have been assiduously imbibed from her mentor.
A becoming bani, the capacity to translate her musical ideas into performance and confidence oozing from start to finish, Charumathi is certainly set to go places. "Koluvaiyunnade" was a bright rendition with madyamakala swaras in keeping with the raga. The swaroopa of Bhairavi and the Dhurita sequences infused with pep and vigour established a special equation with the rasika. Trivandrum Balaji (mridangam) and K.V. Gopalakrishnan (kanjira) played a consummate tani avartanam that reflected the technical skills and laya accuracy of the participants.
The brief Behag sketch with many glimpses of the guru's influence and the javali, "Samayamidhe" was a tryst with melody. A pleasing Sindhubhairavi followed by Swati Tirunal's "Vishveshwara Darshana" were refined, tidy presentations. "Eppo Varuvaro" in Jonpuri and "Govardhana Giridhari" in Darbari Kaanada did impressively affect the rasika's consciousness.
To the artiste's credit, it must be said that there is ample musical awareness in one so young.
