On backdrops
Should the sponsors' names be displayed as part of the backdrop as it is in Hamsadhwani?
The sabhas expect high art from the artists. But is it there in their displays? Take the plain midnight blue backdrop with a small sabha banner at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha stage.
It is hardly in keeping with the grandeur of the auditorium.
Also the platform for dance orchestras is very shoddy just a blanket on long benches put together and that too not draped properly.
The `ma' of Mali
Mali (T.R. Mahalingam) had his own conception of swaras relating to ragas. What he was able to produce on the flute is still the fond hope of many. One knows of the Begada `ma' in `ma ma ga ri sa'.
But Mali's `ma' of Begada was itself more outstanding than the unique `ma' of Begada and the delay imparted by him together with the stress he gave was such that it was no more the `ma' of Begada, but the `ma' of Mali.
Bold statement made on behalf of a bold musician.
Wooden platform
In this wedding hall, the rear half is raised with a wooden platform to give it the feel of an auditorium. But when people climb it, those already seated have to experience what feels like a minor earth tremor. Added to this is the noise of the plastic chairs being dragged this way and that.
