Relaxed presentation

Sriram Parthasarathi

Sriram Parthasarathi gave the impression that he should perhaps concentrate more on singing and less on ornamentation (briga). The major composition of the early afternoon, `Palinchu Kamakshi,' in Madhyamavati or for that matter, `Bagayenayya,' were cluttered with too many gamakas.

On the other hand, `Sankari Neeve,' in Begada or even the alapana of Madhyamavati were punctuated with soft and gliding phrases that could be consolidated.

The extremely popular Sadasiva Brahmendra kirtana, `Pibare Ramarasam,' as tuned by Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna in Ahirbhairavi was the concluding piece and probably a more relaxed presentation of Parthasarathi. V.R. Ambikaprasad on the violin and P.K. Babu on the mridangam gave competent support to the vocalist.
