Music Matters
Nice gesture
Press photographers nowadays wait for the artistes, especially singers, to warm up to click away snapshots. But on one recent occasion, the photographer himself sat enjoying the emotional music of the vocalist without clicking. When asked he said, `I too have musical ears. I just cannot tear myself away from the nice music he is presenting. And I don't have the heart to disturb them with my flash bulb.' Sensitive indeed.
Too many hurdles
This singer on stage faced too many hurdles. First the connecting chord of the sruti box was playing truant. Later it was the paper on which the lyrics of the kriti was written, which flew away at the crucial moment and the singer could not recall the words in spite of the fact that it is a popular number. So it was the responsibility of the percussion artists to fill the void with rhythm till the paper was retrieved and the singer could catch up with the rest of the song.
Quality of sabhas
Every year, new singers emerge, new sabhas mushroom, and the sponsors also keep growing. But there seems to be no change in the quality of the auditoriums. A couple of ancient halls in the city desperately need a facelift. Ironically, these places have canteens. And toilets, generally are neglected in most of the places.
Different ball game
Organisers need not necessarily be good orators as it is a different ball game. Except a couple of secretaries, whose language and expressions are exceptional, others only churn out colloquial and mundane stuff in between the concerts. But this particular organiser sang a few lines during his speech. But the point driven home was just the opposite!
