Music matters

Stage décor

The concert stage décor has improved a lot indeed. Colourful curtains, paintings, accessories related to music and musical instruments adorn the backdrop. But even now some sabhas stick to the old-fashioned striped blanket in bright shades something totally outdated in present day milieu. The songs and renditions should be archaic but not the décor.

Handy volumes

The season inspires creativity of various kinds. Ram and Lalitha Ram, Los Angeles residents, have published two handy Tamil volumes. `December Durbar' by Ram captures the Chennai ambience during Margazhi. Sprinkled with anecdotes, the fluent style laced with humour makes the slim book eminently readable. Lalitha Ram's book is on GNB, a musician equally famous for his looks. Embellished with pictures, the book traces the charismatic singer's musical journey. Both are Vikatan publications.
