Mandolin sisters Sreeusha and Sireesha, fledglings as they are, have to run a bit longer to reach their destination of providing sublime music. Their raga alapanas for Sahana (`Vandanamu') and Kalyani (`Ethavunara') had moving expressions that were indicative of what they are really capable of. If the sisters seek to provide the sensation of vocal music, sahityanubhava, through this videshi instrument, they need to wait till maturity catches up with them. The sisters also presented `Enna Thavam Seidhanai' (Kapi) and `Anupama Gunambuthi' (Atana) with a clarity that was commensurate with their age and experience.
One, however, got the impression that the `akara asaivu' at the pallavi of `Radha Samedha Krishna' was rather over-stressed. Ramana, on the mridangam, should have borne in mind that when accompanying a delicate string instrument he should strike a low profile.
D.V. Venkatasubramaniam on the ghatam only had to toe the line. They, however, provided a tani that showed mutual understanding.
