The musical forms of padams and javalis are exclusive in terms of the composer's imagination finding full flow in more moods than one.
The tradition of Veena Dhanammal is the most significant to have made rasikas appreciate this beautiful genre with greater perception. The singing of padams and javalis needs an extra sensitivity and a mature approach to create a positive impression.
Nirmala Sundararajan and Subhashini Parthasarathi, senior disciples of T. Muktha, have an incisive understanding of this style that was amply reflected in their concert.
The programme comprising only padams and javalis, 14 to be exact, was a praiseworthy amalgam of classicism and contemporariness.

The agenda was made up by the songs of Ghanam Krishnayyar, Dharmapuri Subbarayar, Jatapalli Varu, Muddu Natesar, Swati Tirunal and Chinnaiah among others.
Programmes like these would be of great value and guidance to the student community.
The accompanists A.G.A.Gnanasundaram (violin), Arjun Ganesh (mridangam) and Venkatasubramaniam (ghatam) played supportive roles with dignity.
