SRI PARTHASARATHY SWAMI SABHA

Mature and classical

LAKSHMI VENKATRAMAN

K. Gayatri

K. Gayatri has a strong resonant voice and her singing has depth and a classical approach. Her alapana of Darmavati was rendered with `Akara suddham' and the swing up and down made it very pleasing. The kriti, `Bhajanaseyarada' came with niraval and swarams for `Niravadisukha'. The swaras were energetic and sharp.

The violinist Karthick had some difficulty with the talam, though his raga essay was quite good.

`O Jagadamba' in Anandabhairavi was sung in a proper vilamba and both the accompanists seemed to find it difficult to maintain the slow tempo.

The main item was `Palimsu Kamakshi' in Madyamavati. Once again, the alapana was handled with maturity by young Gayatri.

There were occasional imaginative patterns in the kalapanaswaras. The thani by B. Srivatsan was decent.

Earlier, Gayatri had sung `Viribhoni' varnam and `Sri Parthasarathy' in Suddhadhanyasi. A couple of light classical compositions were the concluding items.
