After the Saveri raga varnam came a Muthiah Bhagavatar composition, `Charanam Saraswathi' in a rare raga Vijayasaraswathi, a janya of Simhendramadhyamam in the concert of Gayathri Girish.
`Sugunamule' in Chakravaham, with a decent raga delineation by her and violin accompanist Usha Rajagopalan warmed up the concert.
Dikshitar's `Amba Neelayadakshi' was rendered in a suitable vilamabakalam bringing about the beauty of the kriti and the raga Neelambari.
A brisk `Sri Vallidevasenapathe' preceded the alapana of Varali, in which Syama Sastri's composition `Karuna Joodavamma' was taken up with kalapanaswara at `Ni Padambuja.'
Gayathri made use of `ni pa da' as swarakshara. The viruttam of an Arutpa in Bhairavi followed by `Enakkum Unakkum' was quite appealing.
Not all ragas lend themselves to RTP, but the current trend is to sing RTP in light ragas and
Gayathri chose Mohanakalyani. As the scope for elaboration is limited in the raga, a few phrases inevitably got repeated in alapana, tanam and pallavi as well as swaras. How could `da ni sa' creep into Arohana in Mohanakalyani? It did quite a few times.
A decent thani followed by Vaidyanathan and kanjira artiste K. Ramesh, and both provided understanding support through the concert.
