BRAHMA GANA SABHA
Brilliant prayogams
Ganesh
It was a neat vocal presentation by Dr. Ganesh accompanied by Kandadevi Vijayaragavan on the violin, Umayalpuram Mali on the mridangam and A.S.Krishnan on the morsing. After the Tamil varnam in Charukesi, he moved on to ‘Sri Mahaganapate’ in Abhogi adding brisk swaraprastara in which he came out with some intelligent tala manipulations.
The old time favourite ‘Ganaamudabanam’ in Jothiswaroopini followed. There were some occasional brilliant prayogams in his Kalyani alapana preceding ‘Enduko Ni Manasu,’ in the niraval of this piece; some of the sangatis were rather slippery.
After a fast-paced ‘Ilalo Pranatharthi’ in Atana, Ganesh took up Kiravani for Ragam Thanam Pallavi. The raga delineation was well conceived and developed.
Vijayaragavan was consistently good in all his efforts on the violin. The Pallavi was set to Kanda jathi Triputa tala with eduppu at three-fourths idam. Most artists seem to prefer this tala for Pallavi these days.
Several ragas were rendered in the kalpanaswara segment in quick succession. Mali and Krishnan presented a lively thani, besides offering unintrusive support to the main artist through the concert. A few light items found place at the end.
Latest amplification equipment is provided in the auditorium. But unfortunately the handling was not that good. Instead of increasing the volume of the monitor on the stage, provided for the convenience of the artistes, the volume of the speakers in the auditorium was increased, making the decibel level too high for comfortable listening.
