Nisha Rajagopal, accompanied by B.Ananthakrishnan on the violin and Rajesh Srinivasan on the mridangam, gave a creditable performance. The Tyagiyer Sahana varnam, Adi talam was succeeded by a kriti in Malayamarutham, Adi talam of Manambuchavadi Venkata Subbaier. Swaras at ‘Vara Maddala’ had the effect of a soft breeze blowing. ‘Mohanakara’ (Kotiswara Iyer) in Neethimathi raga set to Rupaka tala was a vivadhi raga piece. Dhanyasi raga was taken up later and built up in a calm fashion and the expression of the raga was delicate in usage and the kriti was ‘Meenalochana Brova’ of Syama Sastri in misra chapu. Niraval was done at ‘Samajagamana Neevu Taamasambu Seyaka’ and here the meaning got truncated and was incomplete. It is always better to learn the meaning before taking up a phrase for niraval. Swaras were rendered efficiently.‘Yochana’ (Darbar, Tyagaraja, Adi tala) was sung with all the sangatis clearly. So far in this season Khambodi seems to be most favoured raga by the artists and so one gets different flavours and hues of the raga getting enunciated. Nisha’s Khambodi had class and depth in conceiving the raga swarupa with azhuttham in due proportion. Her tara sthayi rendition of the raga was superlative. Her reach in manthara sthayi was equally engaging. The kriti was ‘Koniyadi’, Adi talam of Veena Kuppiyer. The graded sangatis of Koniyadi and the swaras were handled at length. The thani was presented reasonably well by Rajesh Srinivasan.

Ananthakrishnan’s playing on the violin contributed to the success of the concert. The Paras javali, ‘Chelinenetlu’ brought the curtain down and Nisha had little time for tukkadas. She took control of the stage at the outset and her kutcheri craft was good. She is one of the rising stars in the musical firmament.
