Quality consciousness was clearly visible in the alapanas and kirtanas rendered by Lalgudi GJR Krishnan.

Lineage has a great bearing on the quality of music of the descendant. Lalgudi Krishnan has imbibed all the subtleties of his father’s technique. Ideas and ideologies ran in the family as evident in the way Krishnan constructed the performance — planning and implementation.
The violin produced a clean stream of melodic sound blended well with artistry. The sense of balance and compellingly organised presentation were in perfect fusion.
The grand way he built up Kalyani, ‘Enduko Nee Manasu’ was vibrant with technical intensity, his vidwat and training spreading uniformly over the entire concert.
The sancharas in Kalyani invoked the specific areas of traditional values. The raga imagery was at once graphic and exquisite. The whole suite of the ragam, kirtana and nirval was highly rejuvenating.
For the other songs too, ‘Inta Sowkhya Manine’ (Kapi) ‘Sri Mathrubootham,’ (Kannada) and ‘Ninivu Vina Marigalada’ (Ritigowla), Krishnan provided brief but captivating alapana.
Quality consciousness was clearly visible in the alapanas and rendering of Kirtanas. He loved every moment of his interpretative effort. The ease and loveliness of his style of play were impressive.
Karaikudi Mani (mridangam) and V. Suresh (ghatam) enlivened the impact of the performance by their consummate virtuosity.
In the thani, erudite and mind-boggling patterns from Karaikudi Mani were exhaustive, enthusiastic and punch-packed.
The energetic display defined an accompanist’s role.
