Melody took front seat in Kottakal Varier's music concert. He enjoyed the accompaniments of Aditi Krishnaprakash on the violin and N. Hariharan on the mridangam.
Within the first 50 minutes Varier spun out a fine fabric woven out of varnam in Nattakurinji, ‘Narasimha - Kara Maamava' (Arabi, Swati Tirunal), ‘Teliyaleru Rama' (Dhanuka, Tyagaraja) and ‘Venu Ganaloluni' (Kedaragowla, Rupakam, Tyagaraja) with a brief and tasteful alapana and fast kalpanaswara exchanges with the other artists at the anupallavi, ‘Vikasita Pankaja Vadana' and ‘Entanerchina' Udayaravichandrika/Suddhadhanyasi, Desadi, Tyagaraja.
The slower pace started with Purvikalyani. Varier dispensed solemn music through dedicated treatment with deep korvais at the upper shadja, rishabha and gandhara. Aditi almost mirrored the rendition while shading it with her own moving inputs. The whole bouquet seemed to be a perfect offering to Goddess Meenakshi, brought to life by Muthuswamy Dikshitar in his composition, ‘Meenakshi Memudam.' Niraval at ‘Madhurapuri Nilaye' on half-beat through slow and fast, and kalpanaswara led to a short and aesthetic thani avartanam.
A memorable concert was brought to a close with this.
