Take home the next best

Art is hot. A maestro's work will leave one poorer by lakhs. But, the common man's décor dreams need not go up in smoke. For Rs. 5,000 one can get copies of 10 masterpieces. And it will take an expert to make out the difference.

Art has a place of its own in interior decoration. Its role is beyond comparison. However impressive may be the quality of construction, furniture and artefacts placed around, it is the art mounted on walls that gives the décor a distinct appeal. If the work happens to be of a maestro, all the more better. Prestige shoots up, so does your fortune.

And here lies the hitch. Not many can bring a master home. If one cannot afford an original work, the next best is its reproduction. It still would be an expensive affair for the effort the artist puts in, in copying the masterpiece. No need to fret though. Head for Santi Arts, which makes art prints available at an affordable cost.

Wide range

Santi Arts has a collection that includes over 165 prints of paintings from most of the Indian painting styles- Kalamkari, Tanjavur, Rajasthani, Puri, Mysore. Other styles like pen and ink, charcoal medium and sepia tones too find a place. And they are available in the range of Rs. 110 to Rs.895.

In the field of screen-printing for 45 years, Santi Arts (Park lane, Secunderabad) got into art prints only during the last 15 years when their artistic greeting cards to clients evoked appreciation and others too began to clamour for copies.

Siddarh Jain, director, takes pride in that they had mastered the craft of hand screen printed reproductions of master paintings, as also works of talented artists, in as many as 18 to 20 different colours and shades. Some of its popular reprints include `Sri Rama Pattabhishekam', "Astha Lakshmi', "Diamond crown of Lord Venkateswara", `Ras leela' `Geeta bodh' and icons of gods. There are art prints depicting nature in its full bloom.

Different media

For those who respect tradition and traditional arts like Kathakali, there is a wide range to choose from. Monuments like Charminar, architecture, landscapes, classic paintings too figure prominently.

Done in various media like hand-made paper, silk, canvas and glass, each original art print done by hand takes about two months and costs about Rs.25,000 to 40,000 and then printed in bulk , Mr. Jain explains as "affordable cost is our objective".

"For Rs.5,000, an art lover can buy 10 of his favourite works," says Mr.Jain. The art prints are available in `Easy to gift' form that come neatly packed and `Ready to display' form that can be hung straight away. And they come in all sizes too. For the convenience of art lovers from any part of the world, their website www.santiarts.com facilitates online shopping too.
