For frayed nerves
SIMPLY GAZING at a dozen colourful fish is enough to soothe frayed nerves and relieve the tensions of daily life. That is perhaps why it is viewed as a therapeutic entertainment. But maintaining an aquarium within the confines of a house is no child's play. Keep the following in mind if you are fond of aquarium:
Plan the location and measurement of an aquarium during the design phase of the house itself.
Goldfish is the most popular species. Other common varieties include the Guppys, Mollies, Plattys, Sword Tails, Tetras, Gouramis, Rainbow Sharks, Blue Morfs, Fighters, Angels and Suckers.
Right kind of tank with proper under-gravel filters, fluorescent lighting and aeration is important. Landscape the tank with pebbles, gravel, colour stone, coral sand, driftwood or aquatic plants.
Use the latest biological filters that are capable of maintaining the water quality in a tank up to a year without replacement. Predators like Piranhas and Oscars should be put separately. Male Fighters attack each other and so should be provided mates.
Fish are susceptible to fungus attacks and infections and require close monitoring to identify the symptoms.
Be sure to store adequate and right food for fish.
