Gym at home
With more people becoming health conscious and doing exercises, fitness centres have sprouted across the city.
Such facilities are being created in homes also, so one need not step out for a walk or go to a gymnasium.
Hectic hours at office, long distances between home and office, and busy schedules have made people turn to modern fitness gadgets they can use at home.
Fitness equipment are classified into two major types: domestic and commercial.
Those used at home are mostly treadmills, sports cycles, and twisters that the entire family can use.
A pack of this equipment can start from Rs. 25,000 and people can spend even up to Rs. 5 lakh for a home gym.
The additional facilities that they can go in for are equipping an extra room with a dry heat chamber (sauna), steam chamber and hot water spray (jacuzzi).
In the case of apartments or townships, common fitness centres are often set up on the premises.
Here, equipment that come under the commercial category are installed.
These are the same as used at home.
The difference is mainly in the sturdiness of the equipment that are installed.
Outdoor game courts (tennis, basketball, etc), play area for children and clubhouses are added facilities.
A builder here says that size of the gyms at home is determined by space. With space becoming a constraint within the city, many prefer to have the gym in the television room; or opt for a television set or a home theatre at the gym.
