NAC offers training in facility management

Introduces PG Diploma in collaboration with JNTU

The rapid developments in the building infrastructure growth and their going the ultra-modern way by way of incorporating state-of-the-art technology has given rise to the need of a stream that came to be known as Facilities Management.

The new working environs call for efforts to enhance increasing productivity, efficiency, reliability, safety and durability of the business and it is one challenge that is sought to be addressed by the way of this emerging stream of expertise.

With stress on aligning infrastructure with core business goals, a trained Facility Manager is expected to deliver the same by coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organisation.

Multi-disciplinary in nature, this task requires integrating the principles of business administration, architecture, behavioural and engineering space.

Though specific tasks may vary, but a manager is expected to deliver on the fronts of operations and maintenance, real estate, project planning and management of human and environmental factors.

Tasks also include space and workspace planning, budgeting, purchase and sale of real estate, lease management, renovations or architectural planning and design. Facility Managers may suggest and oversee renovation of projects, for a variety of reasons, ranging from improving efficiency to ensuring that, the facility meets Government regulations and environmental, health and security standards

To cater the emerging needs of the FM industry, for trained facility management professionals, the National Academy of Construction, Hyderabad In collaboration with Jawaharlal Technological University, Hyderabad has announced a Post Graduate Diploma in Facility Management (PGDFM).

One year course

This one year course is structured to provide formal knowledge based multi disciplinary training, full time at the NAC for six months followed by six months of paid work experience with the FM industry and a continued absorption of the FM trainee by the industry.

Graduates from any discipline, with not less than 6 months Industry experience, whether it be Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Architecture, IT or other graduate qualifications and with working professional managers, who wish to diversify to a more challenging career in facility management being eligible, the course provides career opportunity in Facility Management, with major organizations and FM service providers.

The PGDFM is scheduled to commence from August 2007. The NAC also offers residential accommodation at the NAC campus for successful aspirants.
