Lifestyle: Captivating colours can enliven your room. -
The flavour of life would be most unsavoury if not escorted by some colour. You would rather keep your eyes shut than viewing the world in grey colours. Apart from pleasing the senses, colours also have a responsibility of speaking for abstract feelings and emotions. Each mood has a hue with each shade representing a change for the worse or the better. No wonder that RGB is an integral part of all design principles. So is it with the concrete designs of real estate. The co
lour and quality of paints will become the preoccupation of the builder as well as the owner as the house in question nears completion.
“Unmindful of the costs, people are choosing only premium products nowadays,” says Nageshwar Rao of Monarch Paints in Jambagh. The choice includes anti-dirt, waterproof paints which promise to rule out the need for a makeover for many years to come. Some of the best premium paints are available with Nippon, ICI Dulux and Nerolac, he says.
Textured surface with a coarse, rugged appearance is the in-thing for the exterior. It is most often accompanied by dazzling multiple colours. One can spot many recently-built apartments in loud blue/orange or brick/cream combinations.
“The rough texture does not come with the paint. It is attained through a kind of paste (lappam) applied on the cured wall prior to painting,” Nageshwar Rao explains.
M.Ashok of Vishal Hardware and Colour World in Ameerpet says that the multi-colour pattern known as Metallic Finish is also preferred some times for interiors, especially children’s rooms. However, care should be exercised because at Rs.60 to Rs.80 per square foot, it is the most expensive of all.
Ashok suggests Marble Finish of Nerolac that has 24 colours to suit to every kind of flooring. It costs Rs.40 per square foot. Nerolac also has alternatives which will be easy on purse. Its washable Platinum range at Rs.10 per square foot will hide cracks if any. Finish is the plus point in Gold range though without washability. It costs Rs.7 per square foot while the Silver, Premium and General Purpose ranges will cost Rs.5. The cost is inclusive of lappam and labour charges.
“Choice depends on customers’ requirement and affordability. Quality can differ only in terms of washability and stain resistance. Peeling and chipping most often is caused by the poor condition of the wall,” says Ashok.
Nerolac is also offering a range of Disney Impressions to select from for your child’s room. These designs will create an illusion of wallpaper with fairies and flowers etched in Foxy lady (wheat)/Cupid (pink), Sun dew (sky blue)/Wild rose (peach) and Golden wheat/Ocean Cruise (sea blue) combinations. Costing Rs.25 to Rs.40 per square foot, these paints will need expert hands and specialised technique involving stencils. Trained hands from the company will arrive to deck up the wall if you place a requisition with the Nerolac dealer. The company credits its Disney range with excellent washability and superior stain resistance.
Nevertheless, the children will find a way, don’t they?
