Construction supervision course
As the construction industry grows enormous, the need for construction workers too is growing rapidly.
There is a clear dearth of personnel who can handle the actual construction work and at the same time, even the requirement of manpower to supervise their work is being felt. Since the portfolio of project engineers or engineers does not go with the t
ask, it is the supervisor cadre that comes into demand to play the role.
To fill this void, the National Academy of Construction (NAC) has started a three-month General Works Supervisor course that seeks to train candidates in supervision of masonry structures, RCC structures, mixing of mortar and concrete, fixing of doors and windows, plastering, plumbing works, painting and decoration.
They will also be trained in marking the site columns, levelling the site, estimation of quantities and quality control. The Academy will also organise site visits to impart practical knowledge of the material and man power.
The NAC point out that proper training of supervisors will help him streamline and handle a given construction work in proper fashion. Ignorance of masons on certain aspects such as utilisation of bonding bricks, arrangement of stones and use of chicken mesh can be effectively tackled by a trained supervisor.
“If a mason gets even a centimetre of gap in brick arrangement, he fills it with mortar which is a clear wastage of material,” says a trainer.
The NAC curriculum for General Works Supervisor also include theory on binding materials and its importance, importance of plastering coats proportions, different types of finishing sponge smooth materials, masonry structures, brick stone cement block and classifications, methods involved in application of plaster on wall ceiling types of materials for finishing etc.
