Option to get portion of developed land or cash compensation

Farmers in Karnataka can take up projects such as housing, commercial or industrial activity

Farmers in Karnataka, whose lands will be acquired for industrial projects, hereafter have an option to get a portion of developed land or compensation in cash.

According to a government notification issued on August 13, for every acre of land acquired the farmer is entitled to possession of 8,500 square feet developed area.

Their share

Farmers can take up projects such as housing, commercial and industrial in the developed piece of land that has been earmarked as their share, it said.

However, in case the land acquired measures less than 10 guntas, such farmers would only get cash compensation and not any share in the land, the notification said.

The Government brought in these changes in the backdrop of the outcry by farmers that their lands were being acquired for meagre compensation. — PTI
