Go for indoor plants
A majority of city dwellers live in apartments. They have limited space for growing plants and none at all for trees. Considering the limitations in terms of time and space, the best option is to have indoor plants.
The selection of an indoor plant depends on the décor and availability of lighting in the house. Areca palm is an ideal plant if you have ample space for it to grow. Adaptable as a garden variety too, this bamboo-like plant is relatively pest-free. Other such varieties are Bombay bamboo and Buddha’s Belly, the latter considered auspicious according to Feng Shui.
Leaf Anthurium is another variety that can survive tough weather. Its large, shapely leaves are capable of arresting the most uninterested glances. The price range: Rs. 40 to Rs. 500.
If you do not mind colours other than green, you can choose Schefflera High Colour, Victoria or Song of India, all in yellow/green combinations. Lily Veriagata is a flowering variety in the same colour scheme. Prices range from Rs. 15 to Rs. 80.
Right choice
If you love your diet in solid purple, then Dracaena Mahatma or Dracaena Ruby will be the right choices.
Almonda with small yellow flowers can be grown indoors as well as outdoors. However, flowering varieties of indoor plants need to get their daily dose of reflected sunlight. Orchids and a few varieties of Anthurium and Begonia too come under the flowering category.
Hanging baskets are popular nowadays. Shade-loving plant species such as Clorophytums, ferns and pileas can be grown in them.
